We’re ready to design your website for you, but if you’re interested in learning more about WordPress websites, you’ve come to the right place! We use WordPress because it is one of the most user-friendly content management platforms, but WordPress also provides many technical options that you may want to take advantage of.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the technical side of using WordPress:

  • What is caching? It works in a similar way as our mind does. When you visit a website for the first time, it gets loaded straight from the server, like when you Google an answer to a question that pops in your mind. The next time you visit the same website, it doesn’t send another request to the server, but instead, we can access data directly from the cache which was stored when the initial request was sent to the server. So every time you visit a site, certain information is saved so that the website can load faster the next time. This saved information is called cache. When you clear your browser cache, your browser will then have to reload the site from scratch all over again.
  • What are hosting, plans, websites, and domains on WordPress.com? We’ll use a metaphor for this one. Think of WordPress.com as a building where someone can rent an apartment by signing and paying for a lease (this is hosting). The furniture is up to the renter (think of this as the content of a website), but the size (the storage space of a site) is determined by the type of the apartment or condo (like the plan). Each apartment has their own mailing address (like the primary domain of a website). Essentially, all of these things work together on WordPress.com to provide you with your website.
  • How are domains and websites different from each other? Metaphors might help with this one too. Think of your website as a car, and your domain is your license plate number. Every car (site) comes with a default license plate number (domain name), but you can get a custom license plate if you choose. By signing up with WordPress, your site will always have .wordpress.com in its web address. But, just like a license plate number, you can register a custom domain and have your web address be whatever you want (as long as it hasn’t already been taken by someone else).

Though these are only a few frequently asked questions about the technical side of WordPress, but whatever questions you may have about your website, we are here to help. And if you don’t want to dive into these aspects of your website, no worries! Web Badger will handle it all for you. Let us know when you’re ready to get started.
