Improving your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rank is no easy feat for any business, but it can be especially difficult when you have limited resources like time and money. For small businesses, improving your SEO may be hard, but it is especially critical when you want to receive more traffic (and therefore more potential customers and more profit!) to your business’s website. At Web Badger, we specialize in designing unique websites, using adwords and digital advertising methods, and improving your SEO rank. We strive to make your website dreams a reality.
How can small businesses improve their SEO? Here are a few tips and tricks:
- Figure out exactly what your small business provides to customers. Consider how, when, and where customers determine that they need your product or service. Will they find you on their mobile device, or at home using a desktop computer? Do they need your product or service for their own personal desire, or is it caused by some disruptive event? Once you begin answering these questions, match your tone so that your customers will be able to find your business quickly. This helps with keyword research and content creation.
- Fix any technical SEO issues you may have on your website. Your website structure should be solid so that search engines can properly crawl and index your webpages. Some common technical SEO problems are speed, duplicate content, broken links, improper use of canonical link elements, and un-optimized pages. - Optimize your pages on your site. Do so by using targeted keywords in appropriate places on your website. This means optimizing your titles, meta descriptions, and body content. For more information about on-page optimization, read this article on the importance of keywords for SEO.
- Research what your competitors are doing, and then do it better than they’re doing it. Remember that competitors online may be different from competitors near you geographically. Because we are considering SEO, focus most on the websites that show up in the top 5 to 10 positions of Google search results for targeted keywords that are relevant to your business. Consider what those sites are ranking for, how many pages they have indexed, their website structure, and the quality of their backlink profile.
